My rant on society

I have had a past few annoying days.. okay weeks, and I just have to tell everyone what I have been enduring.

Most of these rants have to do with public transit.. okay, all of them (who isn't annoyed with them, really?)

So first off, I realize that we are all in a hurry in the morning and need to jam ourselves like sardines into the sky train to get where we need to go, but some people NEED to wait for that next train. Take yesterday. I got on the train, and took my spot where little 'ol me wasn't in anyones way and close enough to the entrance so I wouldn't have to be like Moses and part the red sea when I got off in 4 stops. The train doors close, and we are on our way. The next stop approaches. People get on, people get off, all is well. EXCEPT for this oneee lady who decides that she is going to push herself against me and touch my boob, and continues to do so. Hello?! There is so much room on the other side! Go there instead. I gave her the death stare. It didn't help either that the train was already getting pretty full, and she was a "last minute rider" who had to run for the train as the doors were closing, causing the doors to re-open and close 3 more times. Can people not see that the train is full? If the train is too full when I am getting on, I simply wait for the next one. That way I know I won't get irritated, and I won't be irritating anyone else.

Secondly. Why are bus drivers such jerks?! Okay, the majority of them are nice, but there are a few of them that just need to cool their jets. They can see people running for the bus, yet they close their doors and pretend they didn't see them. Grrr. How rude! Would it seriously kill them to wait an extra 20 seconds? I just don't get it. However, I did have a very nice bus driver today who waited for an extra 3 minutes at the stop. Such a nice man.

Last week I was on the train with my book bag stuffed to it's full capability and a textbook and notebook in my left arm, carrying my water bottle in my right. I make an effort to keep my belongings to myself and not let them hit anyone as I am walking down the train "aisle" to get to a seat.
The train stops, and a mother (or babysitter, which ever) with another woman and 2 kids come on. The first woman passes by gracefully and takes her seat. The next one.. oohhh the next one.. flings her diaper bag/purse around her shoulder, hitting people in the heads, and as she continues to walk, it continues to hit people as it sways back and forth. Hello?! Can you not feel that happening? Because I know I would. And she doesn't even apologize to anyone. Now I know that it is hard to carry all that extra baggage, along with a kid, but I am not giving her that excuse. If I am able to carry my heavy bag plus have junk in my arms and not hit anyone, then I expect her to do the same.

The ignorance of people.

Another thing that just absolutely infuriates me is when an elderly person gets onto a train or bus, and NO one offers their seat. Seriously? What has this world come to? So then the elderly individual has to stand, and they almost fall over because they don't have the greatest stability. It just makes me sad. And what is even worse, is that the people that are sitting down just look out the window and pretend that they don't see this going on. It just makes you wonder how these people were raised. They need to go back to pre-school and learn about sharing.

Oh the joys of being a public transit rider!

So much to do, so little time

This past weekend was a busy one, and this week is not much different.

We started our weekend at a scorching airshow. 36 degrees Celsius with a wind that felt like you were sitting in front of a blow dryer set on the hottest temperature. I was basically a human hot dog sitting out and getting roasted. Never before have I sweated so much just sitting down. No amount of SPF could help us. We got BURNT! But with all of that said, it was a great time. My hubby is a cargo pilot and flying is his passion. Seeing the airplanes and show was great, but watching his expressions while the acts performed were even better. That is why I love him. He is passionate about something, and I get to support him and be there with him enjoying it
The Thunderbirds stole the show. Just an excellent performance all together. High speeds, loud jets, and sneaky scare your pants off passes. The Snowbirds were good too, but they should have been showed earlier in the show. After being in the sun for eight hours, enthusiasm slowly faded away and all I could think about was an ice cold... air conditioned apartment (thought I was going to say beer, weren't you? ;)). But, being a Canadian airshow they needed to end with a Canadian performance, and it was very good.

This week started off busy and early. First thing Monday morning I had an exam. It was nerve wracking because my regular prof had been absent for a week and a half due to surgery and during that time we had a recently out of university sub. He taught the entire unit on the skeletal system, circulatory system and cardiovascular system. The nerve wracking part of this is that the regular prof wrote the exam not knowing what we had gone over. Perhaps I had stressed a little too much, because the exam was straight to the point. Which I should have known due to the subject material. Huge relief.
Also on Monday I got back a much anticipated math exam and was pleased to see that I received 94.4 %! I will take that over those B's any day!

Today was an all over the place day. Early class that ended up being a lecture for 2 hours and then math that had an "AH-HA!"moment in it (which is always a good thing).
I also had a hair appointment. I always look forward to going to see my hairdresser. She is so awesome and listens to everything I say. It's almost like she reads my mind every time. Maybe that is one of the reasons she has won two hairdressing awards. So, it isn't a surprise that my hair cut looks awesome! I will get color done closer to the fall, which is coming up faster then I would like it to. Where did the summer go?

Finally, I started my personal training today at the gym. Sadly it won't last long. I won a free week pass along with a free personal trainer session. Much to my pleasure, this one session turned in to three! I will admit that I was NOT looking forward to this gym stuff. I had even cancelled and rescheduled like seven times. I really did not want to go. But I am glad that I did. It's nice to have someone show you what to do and how to do it. Also, having someone there watching you, means you have to give it 100% and not quit.

So that has been my week so far. For the rest of the week I have a lab to complete, an exam on Thursday and I need to cram as much information as I can into my brain so I can study for another exam on Monday. Lots to do, and it always seems like I have no time.

My little "family"

My life can be very hectic. Especially since I live in a one bedroom apartment with three very long haired cats. However, all my worries are wiped away once that lovely vacuum comes out and feasts upon the mountains of cat hair that accumulate on my couches and faux hard wood floors (I prefer this terminology over laminate, how bland of a word is that?). But despite all the hair, they are my life.

Crayola is the oldest of the three (I speak as if they are my human children). She is long haired and calico. I have always adored calico's. Something about their color combinations makes me melt. But then again, every cat can do that to me!
Crayola came into my life in January 2005. An early morning house fire had taken over my life in December of 2004 and had unfortunately taken with it my beloved 7 year old cat, Calico (original, I know). I used to refer to that day as when my life ended. Cats really impact my life, and I believe that they are unique individuals and that they really do know what I am saying/singing to them. A month after her passing, I decided that it was time to get another cat (life is just not complete without one!). It took me FOREVER to find Crayola. I was bound and determined to get another calico cat. I searched high and low and was picking up buy and sell magazines weekly, and was on the phone like a mad woman. Finally the day came when I found someone with not one, but two calico kittens. I was ecstatic! We drove an hour away to look at these darlings, and as soon as I saw the little ball of fluff run around the corner, I just knew that she was mine.
Now she is the queen of the castle. She sleeps at the foot of the bed every night, demands to only drink water out of the bathroom sink, and adores her bell balls. She is quite the lady.

Flossy is the middle child. She is long haired and white with black spots. She is actually the niece of Crayola (this is where the second calico kitten comes in to play). So because of this, they share a special bond.. or so I would like to think!  She is a very sophisticated lady who when she drinks, "cups" the water from her water bowl into her paw and drinks. And when she sleeps, it is always on her back. Such a doofus.

Abby is the youngest. She is long haired and grey and ofter referred to as the devil (out of love of course!) and the princess. She came into our lives the second day in January of 2008. She is our rescue cat. My hubby found her one snowy winter morning while leaving for work. She was cold, hungry and skinny as ever. We brought her up to our apartment, where she was so thirsty that she was lapping up the snow on my hubby's work boots as it was melting. We weren't quite sure what to do with her since we already had two cats, so we called the BC SPCA and set a time for when we would be bringing her in. Long story short, she stole our hearts and has been the center of everything ever since! She is full of attitude, gets away with far too much and loves chasing the other two around for hours upon hours.

Well there you have it, that is my little family. They are hairy and wild, and I wouldn't have it any other way (for now that is ;))

When I grow up, I am going to be the tooth fairy

So we all know that I am 22 and that I am a student, but what about all the details that entail?

I will start off with my passion: dentistry.

I call dentistry my passion because it has been what I have wanted to do ever since I was 4. Way back in 1992 I was asked (like most children are) what I wanted to be when I "grew up". I stated that I wanted to be the tooth fairy and was devastated when I found out that she did not exist. From there I decided that since I couldn't be the tooth fairy I would be the next best thing: a dentist.

I was the child that looked forward to going to the dentist and being able to sit in the "big chair". All of the tools intrigued me (my favorites being the suction instrument and the sprayer) and I always had thousands of questions. After my own appointment was done and I got my pack of sugar free gum and sticker, I would go over to the next room and investigate as they cleaned my younger sisters teeth.

I was always shocked to hear that all of my friends hated the dentist. That they thought they were "scary" and "mean". I just couldn't wrap my head around all of these accusations, after all, I considered the dentist to be one of my best friends and couldn't wait to go back for my 6 month check up.

It was destiny.

What is a blog?

I have decided to try out this blogging world everyone is talking about. Not so sure how long, or if it will last. I seem to go in phases. One day I will be completely for something, and the next I want nothing to do with it.

This seems to play a role in my college life. Take yesterday for example. I was all for starting a new school week (yes I am taking summer courses, and yes it's often a bummer) I start every morning at 8:30am and end around 12:30pm. But as soon as I get there, I just know that it is going to be a long week. Papers due, exams to study for. Motivation, where are you? It doesn't help either that I got an exam back that was graded a B+. Maybe I have high standards, but I burst in to tears and it ruined my entire day. Then I start questioning myself and wondering if I would even be accepted in to dental school. I need A's, and those filthy B's just don't cut it.

There are times when I wish I could fast forward to September 2012. Be done with all this upgrading junk, because yes, I slacked off in highschool and the only things worthy of my time then were boys and friends. It's frusterating knowing that I could have already accomplished these things. But I have to just shrug it off and live with the decisions I have made. The past is the past.

So as far as this blog goes, it may be short lived or long loved. Only the future will tell.
